Spatiotemporal Variations in Vegetation Canopy Interception in China Based on a Revised Gash Model

Vegetation canopy interception (Ic) of precipitation is a considerable component the global hydrological cycles. Although measurement and modeling have been explored worldwide at individual, stand or ecosystem scale, it still unclear how to recognize this process regional scales within context climate change. In study, revised Gash model was employed estimate based on remote sensing meteorological data. The spatial temporal variations in Ic were investigated main environmental factors China for 2000–2018 period. results showed that performed well scale compared with PML_V2 dataset product in-situ measurements. average annual from 2000 2018 166.55 mm, significant decreasing pattern Southeastern Northwestern regions. ratio (Ir) displayed similar pattern, an value 22.30%. At mean significantly increased rate 1.79 mm yr−1 (p < 0.01) during study period, increasing trend more pronounced 2000–2009 3.34 0.01). most vegetation types, except deciduous broad-leaved forest temperate desert, Precipitation, temperature, normalized differential index (NDVI) considered be affecting last two decades, specific dominant varying different areas. Specifically, control regions, temperature mainly influenced Southern NDVI identified as factor regions where ecological conservation projects are established, such Loess Plateau. Our findings expected not only contribute understanding ecohydrological cycle but also provide valuable insights into methodology scales.
